| Room Name: | Baumer Kitchen | | Room Type: | Kitchen | | Room Description: | Completely custom cabinetry makes this rather small area function BIG for this seven bedroom home. The island contains a microwave, warming drawers, drink refrigerator and a great deal of storage, along with display shelves and a pop-up TV that swivels. There is a mix of stained and painted finishes along with different granite and limestone surfaces. The backsplash is a rustic subway tile from Mosaic House and the copper hood was custom fabricated. The chairs are from Woodland Furniture, upholstered in an F. Schumacher fabric. The style is traditional with a slightly rustic feel. |

About This Project:
| Objective: | This is a second home for a young family with three small children that hosts many guests during the ski season. Comfortable, cozy spaces with an easy flow are important.
| | Challenges: | Because the home has seven bedrooms, for numerous guests, the kitchen needs to fulfill all of the cooking and entertainment needs, but the area is very small with only two short runs of counter. Also, the kitchen is seen immediately upon entry to the house. The island needed to stay within the traditional style of the home, with no contemporary references. | | Results: | The island fulfills many of the needs in this kitchen, incorporating appliances and supplying much needed counter space. The island and table were done in stained walnut to keep a furniture feel and tie in with the nearby living room. Many of the features are hidden, such as a pull-out at the end of the table that houses the coffee maker and a toaster and a TV that pop-up and swivels to be seen from any position in the kitchen. |
