| | Sofa Statement! Topic: Ava's Mixed Bag Posted by Robin Bond ♣ on (Updated 10 months ago)
Did you know it only takes 5 to 15 seconds for someone to form a
first impression? I learned this while doing research and training for
the staging services offered through Robin Bond Interiors.
When it comes to your home, there are a number of influences that
subconsciously play a roll in forming one’s impression – especially your
interior decor!
The sofa is most commonly the largest piece of furniture in the
living room. Distract your visitors from forming a negative impression
by ‘wowing’ them with a statement piece! Ideally, residential
interior spaces should have the ability to speak for the client – one’s
style and personality should be displayed through their decor. Why not
make a statement?
Kravet is a product line available through Robin Bond Interiors which offers furniture, accessories, fabrics, trimmings, rugs, and more! Like Robin Bond Interiors, Kravet specializes in ‘style, luxury and exceptional design.’
Kravet’s Delta Sofa is a perfect example of a statement piece.
The majority of people struggle with the concept of contemporary design,
assuming it is too ‘funky’, non-functional, or uncomfortable. The Delta
Sofa is perfect for the client that enjoys a ‘transitional’ style – a
mix of contemporary and traditional. This modest sofa catches your eye
because of the interesting shape and straight, clean lines. Leave the
existing fabric for a fresh look, or add a custom material to give it your own spin!
Wouldn’t you say ‘wow’ if you walked into a room and spotted this sofa?

| | Paint Plan - Hacienda Inspired Topic: Ava's Mixed Bag Posted by Robin Bond ♣ on (Updated 10 months ago)
When I started with Robin Bond Interiors, one of the first projects I was assigned was a paint plan! This entailed selecting the paint colors and placement throughout the client’s entire home. This was very exciting to me!
I love color! The fact that a particular color can provoke human
behaviors and cause certain emotional reactions is fascinating to me!
This project was one were color came into play in every space. Our
client wanted Hacienda inspired color schemes – “NO neutrals”!…Music to
my ears.
These clients were a very cute, young couple living in a beautiful
Southwestern styled home with a terracotta roof and stucco facade. The
wife had done a fabulous job at establishing an eclectic interior
aesthetic by decorating with bold colors and exotic finds from all over
the world. Her only task left to tackle were the neutral, “boring”
walls.
That’s where I came in!

Each space was defined by a bold pairing of colors.
Upon entry of the home, you were greeted with a shade of rose on the
foyer walls and barrel ceiling. Passing through into the living, the
tone was shifted to a golden yellow allowing the boldly colored decor to
pop! In the adjacent open kitchen, blue was applied to the ceiling with
the toffee orange on the walls to compliment. The master suite turned
into a serine space with the calming shade of misty blue and ceiling
accent of a deep teal. This particular pairing of colors allowed the
rustic wooden features throughout the suite to be highlighted as a main
feature.
HERE’S A TIP WHEN SELECTING PAINT COLORS:
Pull inspiration from your favorite pieces throughout the house!

| | Quest for Quality - Jorge Kurczyn de HSK Topic: Ava's Mixed Bag Posted by Robin Bond ♣ on (Updated 11 months ago)
Jorge Kurczyn de Hacienda Santa Klara (HSK) is not a mass producer of furniture. Each piece has its own character and is handmade by the "maestro", specializing in each category of furniture for your home. Maestro is the Spanish word given to the master craftsman who has earn the title through demonstration of his craft and is in charge of the process from start to finish as each piece comes to life.
The process of manufacturing goes though a 4 step process to insure each piece will become a treasure lasting for generations.
Concept and design
You can work with their design team to come up with the concept that fits your home and need. They will help you develop just the right item or a complete collection to fill your home, with attention to detail on the wood, color, hardware and finishes.
Construction
Based on the item to be built, the designer and maestro will take control of your project and after careful review of the design; the item will start to come alive. The greatest attention to every detail is paid to each item to assure our high standards of quality are met with each step of the process. Once the assembly has been done, the item is hand sanded to a flawless finish for preparation of the color. To obtain the proper color or staining, usually 4-5 different colors are used to get just the right color, with the multi-phase air and machine assisted drying to give it the final color or tone.
Blacksmith
Then their blacksmith will make the hardware for each piece, paying special attention to the design and size of that item. The smithing of their hardware is a big part of what makes each of their pieces one of a kind and unique. It is very meticulously matched to each piece not only by scaling it to the overall size of the furniture, but by paying special attention to textures and finishes.
Finishing
At this point in the process, the finishing group will apply several lasting treatments to protect the wood from damaging elements and your keepsake will be as beautiful for many years as the day you placed it in your home. These finishes are all imported from Europe and have been used for generations in the manufacture of fine furniture.

| | Inherit the Wind at The City Theatre Topic: Ava's Mixed Bag Posted by Robin Bond ♣ on (Updated > 1 year ago)
INHERIT THE WIND comes to Austin: May 10 – June 3
The City Theatre Company brings to the stage Inherit the Wind, the riveting play that has its genesis in the famous 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, an episode that changed our nation. It is one of the most outstanding dramas of our time drawing the portrait of an explosive episode in American culture which remains as fresh and relevant as ever. The production plays May 10 – June 3, Thursday – Saturday 8 p.m. Sunday 5:30 p.m.“He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind.” – Proverbs 11:29
When a young teacher is arrested for teaching Darwin's Origin of the Species, a small southern town becomes the focus of the entire nation as long-held beliefs are confronted. Evolution and religion go head to head in one of the most momentous and groundbreaking courtroom battles in history digging deep into the heart and soul of America in a timely search for perspective and hope. Over ninety years have passed since John Scopes was convicted of the crime of teaching evolution in a Tennessee public school. The issues of freedom of speech and the proper role of religion in the public arena have been with us since the earliest days of our nation. Darwin’s theory of evolution and natural selection was seen as a direct challenge to the Biblical version of creation, so a strong effort was mounted to keep these ideas out of public schools.
Two of America’s most seasoned and charismatic orators, Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan, inserted themselves into the raging debate about teaching evolution in the classroom when they took up opposing sides in the trial. Darrow was one of the nation’s most successful defense lawyers and was determined to defend the schoolteacher’s rights to teach. Bryan, a Democratic presidential candidate three times, established himself as one of the most popular conservative public speakers in America. When the judge denied Darrow’s attempts to present scientists as expert witnesses on evolution, Bryan accepted the challenge to take the stand as an expert witness on the Bible, and a titanic battle ensued between these towering American icons. That sweltering summer of 1925, the “trial of the century” became a media circus and a national sensation. And the debate over evolution is by no means settled. Rarely does a week go by without a reference to this issue in local and national news. The present tension between science and faith provides fertile ground for this new production.
Inherit the Wind playwrights Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee stressed that the play “does not pretend to be journalism. It is theatre.” Writing in the 1950s and marshaling the Scopes trial as an analogous historical event, they sought to expose the threat to intellectual freedom posed by the hysteria of McCarthy’s anti-Communist witch-hunts. The play ran on Broadway for over two years and was adapted for the screen a number of times, including the celebrated 1960 version. Over the years, renowned actors of stage and screen have squared off against each other in the Darrow and Bryan roles. The impressive list includes Spencer Tracy and Fredric March, Jason Robards and Kirk Douglas, Jack Lemon and George C. Scott, Christopher Plummer, Brian Dennehy and, most recently, Kevin Spacey and David Troughton.
Directed by Perry Crafton, the cast is headed by veteran Austin actors Scot Friedman and Sam Damon. Featured also is an amazing ensemble cast including Laura Ray, Tony Salinas, Gil Austin, Vincent Doenges, Andy Brown, Ellen Massey, David Niegsch, Steve Wright, Dave Westenbarger, Goeffrey Rake, Rachel Cohen, Clare Boyd, Jo Rake, Danilo Garcia, Bobby Warren, Joe Perales, Frank Rios, Alex Yeager and Sam Dubin.
The City Theatre Company is an Austin-based not for profit arts organization and is sponsored in part by the Austin Creative Alliance, the Austin Cultural Arts Division and the AMD Foundation. Founded in 2006, the company has been recognized by the Austin Critics Table Awards, the B. Iden Payne Awards and was twice voted “Best Theatre Company” by Austin- American Statesman’s Austin 360. CTC is dedicated in providing quality theatre experience and entertainment for Austin artists and its community.
