I really love production design and costume design- I will admit that plot and acting come third and fourth! Lately, I have been visiting the old classics. In general, I have too many favorite movies to list- and it really depends on my mood. My all time favorite movie is Dirty Dancing. | | Favorite Books: | Anything by David Sedaris. I love reading books on business topics. Its rare I read for pleasure, since reading is an investment in time- I prefer to learn and gain something from reading rather than being entertained (but, when I want that, David Sedaris NEVER fails!). I am a magazine junkie- tons of shelter mags, a few trade journals and The New Yorker. | | About Me: | I am a residential interior designer based out of Orange County, CA. My boutique firm, J Steinberg Design, specializes in classic residential interiors for estates and homes of distinction. I'm hired by clients with Transitional, Traditional and "Period" style tastes that want young and fresh design solutions for an interior with a long lifespan.
Since my start in the interior design industry in 2005, I have worked in high dollar real estate here in coastal CA- catering to discerning clients for projects that typically involve the majority of an entire home. I work directly with clients, builders and/or architects from the ground up, and with remodels and mere cosmetic redesigns. I gained my design training at UCLA, am fully versed in construction drawings, I hand draft and hand sketch (client's love this!) and I have extensive textiles knowledge from my background as a fashion designer.
I am most intrigued with residential architecture that has a particular style (French Normandy, Tudor, Federalist, American Georgian- you name it, I love it!), and I like to weave that into the interior. I feel a home has more style and integrity when the architecture is both respected and taken into consideration for the interior. I take projects locally and throughout the domestic United States, from 2,000 sq. ft. beach houses to 12,000 sq. ft.+ mansions and estates. I design and manage every layer of an interior, from the architectural detailing (I love mouldings!), to surfaces and fixtures, to lighting, furniture plans, textiles, art and accessories. I work closely with my clients, and I limit my project load to ensure my hand and management in every project. I feel the "business" part of the project is just as important as the final outcome, and I strive for excellent client services in every aspect of my business and in every phase of the design process.
