I am so sorry to have taken this long to get back with you...tight deadlines to meet! Please accept my apology.
From the looks of your space, you seem to be off to a fairly good start towards achieving the French Country look/feeling you're after. Kudos to you! By the way, may I say your floors look darn good for their age!
With a little tweaking, we can take your room from okay to wow! My first recommedation would be to rearrange the furniture. The way the furniture is currently arranged is not very conducive to intimate conversation, and lacks that coziness you're craving! I would place the sofa facing the fireplace, then place the loveseat & end tables where the sofa currently is (think "L" configuration) and lastly place the leather chair on the window wall. By doing this, you will not only create the coziness, but you will also draw attention to your main focal point, the fireplace wall! Secondly, I would recommend staining the furniture pieces by the fireplace to match the floors. To add even more emphasis to that wall, I recommend hanging a piece of oversized art above each piece. Lastly, you've done great with the use of complimentary colors , but to take it to the next level, add more texture and pattern. This can be easily achieved with different accent pillows that have great trim on them. Okay, one more thing...to make a big impact with your accessories, group related items of varying sizes together. Think grouping in odd numbers because it's more pleasing to the eye. I think you will find once you make these minor changes, your room will have a whole new look!
