Hello Linda,
Thank you for choosing my company to review your room.
I like open spaces if there is a focal point to mark the interest of the room. One way to create interest in an open space is to plan designated vignette areas for various activities of the family, such as conversation area, reading corner, game paying corner, TV watching area, music listening corner, etc. etc. All of these areas are called vignettes and they will help balancing the room.
Your living room, which also includes your kitchen, seems to be a very open space without a defined focal point. We can create it easily with a contrasting paint color to off set the existing white color.
Perhaps with some arrangement of furniture we can achieve a better rhythm.
Right now, the unifying color in this space is dictated by the white colored walls, giving a sense of tranquillity, but the eye wonders around because there is no place to rest, no contrast, no accent.
This is an area that lends itself to be playful. It would be really interesting to accent with a bold color all these areas: the horizontal beam with shelves that wraps around, the vertical beams and the horizontal bam that meet the ceiling i
You asked me what I think about yellow. I like yellow, it's an inviting color and very cheerful. If you like my suggestion of accenting all the beams and shelves, I would choose a very toned down yellow, an antique and very muted yellow. Definitively not a sun yellow.
I can't really determine the proportion and scale of the furniture to really create a unifying room, for that I would need a better photograph.
