Designer's Critique: What works and what doesn't in your room. |
 | The personality of your room is down-to-earth. It resonates with the emotion of being cozy, comfortable, casual, and cheerful. | |
|
| Overall the room is very inviting and balanced. I would try to use your plants in a more effective way . I would watch all of the little nick nacks ( above tv unit, in dining room), it starts to get too busy. In an open floor plan like you have , I would paint both spaces the same color, it makes the space feel larger. I have two options on the painting. One would be to paint all walls a yellow. Benjamin Moore makes a color called Oriental Silk. They may not have a chip on it but they can mix it. Its a yellow that is not too bright nor too muddy. It will work well with the window treatments, wood ect. It will also make the yellow tones of the firplace pop. The second color scheme has more to do with your area rug. Color isn't true on the monitor so here are a few suggestions. I would look for a khaki green , Benjamin Moore- Vale Mist 1494. or 2148-40 or 2150-50. It will pick up the more muted tones of the area rug. You could also paint out the back Dining room wall one or two shades darker to help reduce the length of the room. I feel if you go in this direction you would need to change out your window treatments (side panels) This will be a cozier color scheme. It will make the fireplace pop since it is opposite on the color wheel for the tones in the fireplace.
