Designer's Critique: What works and what doesn't in your room. |
 | A unique personality eminates from your room making it clean neutral soothing. The mood it projects is calm and soothing. | |
|
| It's a bit difficult to review this room from the one photographic view ( if there are more photo angles, I unfortunately couldn't access them). Bathrooms are notoriously difficult to photograph because they are generally fairly small, so you can't get enough distance to get a good sense of space or proportion in one snapshot. In that context, the reason I gave "Emphasis" only one star is that in this photo, it is not clear what the focal point is, although you may well have one that I can't see.
However, I like the fact that you have chosen a colour palette and it is consistent with the various elements: wall tile, accent tile (I like that you used the same tile inside the windwo opening), countertop, towels, with touches of pale aqua in the accessories, soap and the reflection of the towel I can see in the mirror.
The wall sconce that I can see looks to be at a good height off the floor for grooming and if you have a matching one on the other side of the sink, you've created very good, even lighting.
Taking the wall tile up to the ceiling creates a very clean look, however, because you have tiled the inside of the window opening and removed the window trim, I find the window a bit stark looking. This could be easily remedied with a fabric or other material window valance mounted at the ceiling and extending just below the top of the window to soften the opening and give the illusion of a taller window.
In the photo, I can't really see what the subject matter of the little plaque is that is hanging beside the window, but I don't think you need it there. I find it's a bit distracting and it competes for attention with the accessories on your shelving. And as a rule of thumb, accessories have greatest impact when they are larger and fewer in number. Too many small things that are unrelated start looking a little busy. The same goes for soap. If you want to have multiple soaps, one shape and colour instead of an assortment will have a greater visual impact and more unity.
Overall, you have a fresh, neutral space which looks well laid out.
I enjoyed seeing your bathroom! If you need more specific feedback, let me know if you'd like to move on to Designer Advice.
Best wishes!
