Hi Jodi,
I think you are being a little hard on yourself. The room has several good things going for it. It is fairly well balanced with the large front window at one end, and the large display/storage unit at the other. The focal point is the over sized black laquer display/storage unit which looks to be filled with some interesting objet. The Harmony and Rythm aspects of the design are addressed by the red seat cushions and the red tones in the area rug and some in the window treatments. There is room to improve on these aspects by re-doing the current skimpy in scale window cornice board and using a primarily red fabric to do so, perhaps detailed with black trim. While the furnishings are mostly of proper scale, we would suggest updating the chandelier with a more contemporary design and getting a larger area rug so the chair legs will still be on the rug when the chairs are pushed back from the table. A fuller leafed faux tree in the corner in a black container will also serve to make the room feel more harmonious,finished and warm.
