How to Select Free Tools for Your Interior Design Blog

There are so many free tools on the market, but loading up your interior design blog with all the latest free accessories, plug-ins and doo-dads isn’t necessarily a great idea. While it may be tempting to add a visitor counter, a flashy background, an exciting new font, and a cluster of quirky animated gifs to your blog, doing so can easily backfire on you.

The key to getting the most for your interior design blog from free blogging tools is in being selective.

It’s important to learn about the free blogging tools that are out there so you can make an informed decision about what to add. Although you might want to keep this in mind – for every plug-in and doo-dad you add, you can compromise the functionality of your interior design blog and slow it down like molasses (which is the kiss of death on the internet – a slow loading page).

Just remember this when you are surfing the internet and the next latest and greatest thing pops up… just because you CAN have something doesn’t mean you need it. Practice restraint and only choose the options that will truly be useful to your interior design blog.

For example –

Since you can find out how many visitors are reading your blog by checking your traffic statistics, a visitor counter is likely to add unnecessary clutter to your page.

A flashy background is more of a distraction than a benefit.

If you find that a plug-in you’ve tried just isn’t cutting the mustard or doing all that it said it would, then delete it. Be sure to clean out your blog from time to time and dump the plug-ins you aren’t using.

Be realistic about assessing what kinds of blog accessories will help you realize your vision and improve your site. Remember that even a blog tool that doesn’t cost you any cash may not be an asset in the long run.

For step-by-step instructions, to help you set up an interior design blog, take a look at our e-book “Boost Business with an Interior Design Blog – Beyond the Basics”
