Need an Interior Designers point of view.

I Was recently asked this by an artist friend of mine because of an increase that has been seen in the last few years of Giclees, prints, massed produced art, (China) and how it has impacted the artists and the art market.
It seems that artists have been hit extremely hard by the down turn and are falling heavily into that realm of what I call the
"Starving Artist Syndrome"
Myself I am versatile enough that I can follow any trend
weather it swings towards modern wall art or maybe a contemporary faux finish marble design such as a rare onyx technique inspired by an
Algerian Ribbon Onyx
that belong in Wine Rooms could quite possibly be a thing of the past which is why I am asking everyone here
What is your opinion?
Where do you think it's going to lead with the new technology?
I believe fine artists are on the endangered species list if consumers continue to keep buying the cheaper stuff
Are there less people supporting the arts?
