What do you need to let go of?
Topic: Ava's Mixed Bag

In last week's article, I touched on this question, "What do you need to let go of?"  How you respond to this question can be one of the biggest determinants of success in your business so I didn't want to leave this topic without touching on it more.  In order to grow in your business, you have to make room for that growth.  If you don't make room one of two things will happen, you'll crowd out that growth and never move forward or that growth will overtake you and you'll struggle to survive.

We've all been there - we sense something better is out there but we just can't find the space to receive it and it not until we are driven to let go of something out of a sheer desire to survive, that we find ourselves in a much better place.  All we need to do is look to nature to better understand how this works.  I love growing roses but have learned

Butterflyover the years that to really uncover their true beauty and potential, I have to constantly prune them to make room for new growth.  If I leave them alone, they will continue to grow but their beauty will only be a fraction of what I know it otherwise could be.  As it tries to support too many blooms, I've found that's when the disease sets in and that growth that is supposed to be a source of energy and beauty now is hindering its very survival.  But when I routinely care for and prune my rose bushes, I realize now I'm making room for strong new blooms and allowing the plant to truly blossom in all its beauty and to its fullest potential.  We are no different; our businesses are no different.

Nature hates a void and will always move in to fill that space and provide what is needed for continued growth.  Growth is about letting go of something of lesser value to receive something of greater value.  That greater value cannot come fully into existence until there is room for it to manifest.  If you want to see growth in your business, you have to constantly be evaluating what you need to let go of in order to receive that thing of greater value.  This act of letting go and then receiving is how you create that forward movement in your business.  So much of what we do is a give and take relationship and it's that flow of giving and receiving that is so important and propels you forward.

Don't be afraid to let go of something for fear that something greater will not show up.  That is not how nature works and we are connected to nature and therefore governed by the same laws.  Believe something better will show up and it will!  If you are honest with yourself and your business, you will very quickly see what it is that you need to let go of.  Trust your instincts on this; they will not mislead you.  Perhaps it's that client that is driving you crazy, that computer that is on its last legs or that assistant that just isn't making the grade - you know in your heart what it is for you.  You just need to take action on it, press through the fear and stay focused on that greater thing you are creating in your business by letting go of the lesser thing.

Accept that being uncomfortable is a good thing in your business.  It means you are stretching yourself to that next level.  Make room to accept that next level by learning to let go and trust in the process that something better is on the way.

Action Steps

Really give some time and thought to the question, "What do I need to let go of" when you're on your business "sabbatical" and make this a question you continue to ask yourself on a regular basis.  What do you sense in your business is hindering your progress right now?  It may be something tangible like a difficult client or an old printer or intangible such as your mindset around something or a process that is just not working any more.  Surround yourself with what continues to support and energize you and learn to let go of things that hinder that.  You'll be amazed at the results you'll start seeing in your business when you do!
