As the Tellus Institute environmental cost study concluded that while consumer packaging occupies an astounding 50 percent of the space in our municipal landfills, more than 95 percent of its environmental cost occurs in the manufacturing process. So even if you recycle a glass bottle or aluminum can, you’re still losing about 70 percent of the energy that went into manufacturing it. That means you’re not being as Green as you think you are.
