Designer Jennifer Crawford, WFCP speaks with Ava Living:
What is your company platform?
Bringing excellent design into today's interiors.
How did you get into the field of interior design?
As a child, I was fascinated by interior design. However, I didn't decide to become an interior designer until my junior year of college. Today, it is amazing to me that it took me so long to figure it out!
What is your design philosophy?
Creating beautiful spaces that fit the clients' personal style.
What are your creative inspirations?
These are everywhere, museums, artwork, magazines, nature, interiors of building or hotels, the list is endless. I never know what is going to spark an idea. Modern design is as intriguing as old photos. Once I was drawn to a green acanthus rug. Later I found some photos of my childhood home and there was that rug!
What are your best design references?
Design books and magazines, Sensational Color blog, historic homes in Virginia, DC, London, travel to other cities and countries.

In your experience, what are the most most common design misconceptions/mistakes that people have about interior design?
Hanging art too high or too low. Not knowing how to use scale and proportion when selecting fabrics, furniture and accessories.
What is the one favorite thing that will make a room better?
A great accessory piece that ties the room together with color or pattern.
What is the design trend that you love right now?
I love the wide choice of color in the marketplace right now for interior fashions.
What is your top bit of advice for those in pursuit of good design?
Always do research (magazines, online) to discover your personal style what you love in color, style, texture and the like. Then, create a notebook of these items; share these with a professional designer who will be able to create the room(s) or home of your dreams or as you explore the possibilities on your own.
